Renovation + Building Design

We work closely with homeowners and builders to design spaces to suit your lifestyle and values. We support you through the full approvals process, from early concept design to council submission, Construction Certificate, and detailed construction drawings. Working with you to make clear, confident, well-considered decisions to feel prepared ahead of time is our highest value.

  • Concept Design : early floorplans, spatial planning, and design direction

  • 3D Visualisation : concept images and rendered views to help you understand the design

  • DA Drawings : plans, elevations, sections, and site analysis

  • BASIX certificate

  • Construction Certificate (CC) : CC ready drawings and coordination with your certifier and engineer

  • Construction Documentation (CD) : detailed 1:25 interior plans and elevations, joinery drawings, RCPs, electrical layouts, and finishes schedules for accurate pricing and smooth construction

Who We Are

At Light Space Design, we create warm, light-filled spaces that connect people to the beauty of their everyday lives. Based in the Byron Bay Shire and working across the Tweed and Gold Coast, we specialise in thoughtful, bespoke building and interior design, guiding homes, renovations, and extensions from concept and approval through to the finished space.

Founded by Emma Tester, who holds a Bachelor of Architecture and a Diploma of Interior Design, Light Space Design is built on the belief that your home should reflect your lifestyle, your values, and enhance the connection with the natural environment around you. With close to two decades working across the Northern Rivers, Emma brings a calm and collaborative approach to every project, combining local knowledge with practicality, creativity, and a keen eye for detail.

Whether you're renovating your family home, refreshing a coastal retreat, or designing your dream kitchen or bathroom, we're here to make the process inspiring, seamless, and uniquely yours. We support you stage by stage, from first concept to the finer details.

How do we begin working together?

Start by scheduling a complimentary consultation. We’ll discuss your goals, timeline, and budget to outline a clear path forward. After that meeting, we provide a proposal detailing scope, stages, and next steps.

What is the typical project timeline?

Timelines vary based on project size and complexity. Concept development can take a few weeks, while permitting, documentation, and construction can extend several months. We work through stage by stage, and communicate milestone dates early to keep you informed throughout.

You receive clear invoices at predetermined stages: at concept approval, DA lodgement, and construction documentation, so you always know what's coming and can plan your budget with confidence.
